A Thought About Love #1 — I Went There to Break Up With Her
There was a time
I decided to leave her.
We had been together
for seven years.
I was in Australia then.
I thought that when I returned to Korea,
I would tell her in person.
A breakup, I thought,
wasn't something you said over the phone.
Then her father became seriously ill.
Not now, I thought.
This can wait.
So I stayed by her side
through that time.
And then, one day,
I looked at her again.
The woman I had planned
to break up with.
And somehow,
I liked her.
Still.
So I never said the words.
Years later,
after we were married,
I finally told her.
"Back then,
I was going to leave you."
Then I added,
"But when I saw you again,
I still liked you."
